1. Introduction

Dhulo ("the App," "we," "our," or "us") is a private, on-device space for writing thoughts that are meant to fade. This policy explains how information is handled when you use Dhulo on Android, iOS, or the web version.

Dhulo does not require an account, does not operate a note-sync server, and does not upload the contents of your notes. Your writing, settings, profile details, and copies of photos attached to notes are handled locally by the App.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

Dhulo does not collect, sell, rent, or share:

Dhulo contains no advertising SDK and no analytics or cloud-based AI service. We do not use your writing to train machine-learning models.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

3.1 Notes and Decay State

Note titles, note contents, creation times, chosen lifespans, decay styles, colours, and whether a note is on hold are stored in the App's local storage. This information is used only to display and decay your notes on your device.

3.2 Attached Photos

When you choose a photo for a note or profile picture, Dhulo creates a private local copy inside the App's storage. Dhulo does not upload that copy. Choosing a photo does not modify or delete the original in your photo library.

3.3 Settings and Profile

Theme, wallpaper, sound, haptic, default timer, tutorial status, profile name, profile bio, and profile picture preferences are saved locally so that Dhulo remembers your choices.

Dhulo can open its GitHub project page and this Privacy Policy in your browser when you tap those links. The App does not send your notes or settings with those links.

This policy is hosted using GitHub Pages. When you visit a GitHub or GitHub Pages page, your browser sends ordinary web-request information such as your IP address, browser details, and request time to GitHub. GitHub handles that information under its own Privacy Statement.

Dhulo is not affiliated with or endorsed by GitHub, Inc. or Microsoft Corporation.

5. App Permissions

Permission or access Why it may be used
Photos or media picker Only when you choose to attach a photo to a note or select a profile picture.
Local app storage To save notes, settings, profile details, and private copies of selected photos.
Network access To open links you select, such as the GitHub project or this policy.

Dhulo does not request access to your microphone, contacts, calendar, precise location, Bluetooth, or payment information.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Dhulo has no server copy from which we can retrieve a released note. If your device backup system includes app data, that backup is controlled by your operating-system or backup provider.

7. Security

Dhulo relies on the app sandbox and storage protections provided by Android, iOS, and your browser. Keep your device locked and updated if your notes contain sensitive thoughts.

No storage system is perfectly secure. Anyone who can unlock your device or access an unencrypted device backup may be able to access locally stored app data.

8. Third-Party Services

Dhulo does not integrate advertising, analytics, social-login, payment, or cloud-sync services.

GitHub and GitHub Pages are external services reached only when you choose to open their links. Your device's operating system, app store, browser, or backup provider may process information independently under their own terms and privacy policies.

9. Children's Privacy

Dhulo is not designed to collect personal information from children or anyone else. The App does not require an account and does not knowingly transmit a child's writing to us. Parents and guardians should still supervise device access and any information written locally.

10. Your Choices and Rights

Because Dhulo does not maintain user accounts or a server database, we do not hold a remote profile that you can ask us to export or delete. You control the App's local information through note release, app-data controls, device-backup settings, and uninstalling the App.

Requests about information processed by GitHub should be directed to GitHub's privacy contact page.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when Dhulo's features or data practices change. The effective date and version at the top will be updated. Material changes will be made available in the App or project repository before the affected feature is released where practical.
